Deemed as cultural cornerstones by the US Library of Congress due to their “cultural and historic importance to the American soundscape,” The Blueprint, Superfly and ‘Mississipi Goddam’ will join the likes of Radiohead’s Ok Computer and John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme as being considered some of the most important records of the modern era.
Other additions to the Library of Congress this year include Earth, Wind and Fire’s seminal disco bop ‘September,’ Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ and Cyndi Lauper’s hit record She’s So Unusual. Last year, the National Recording Registry selected Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Raising Hell by RUN-D.M.C and ‘Le Freak’ by Chic to be inducted into the archive.
