How Musician’s Can Overcome The Upcoming Instagram Policy Changes

However recently, Instagram has followed in the footsteps of parent company Facebook in overhauling their timeline structure. Gone are the days of chronological timelines and consumers finding the most recent posts at the top of their news feeds.

For bands, this spells danger. You don’t want to see your hard work in building a social following go to waste, and you don’t want to fall into that money trap like Facebook. So how can us musos continue to grow our following whilst still maintaining solid engagement on Instagram?

There are a number of ways, but the most popular (and obvious) is enticing consumers to turn on push notifications for your page.

The plus side of this is that your most engaged users will now get a notification each time you post to your timeline, ensuring they never miss a beat. Push notifications can easily be turned on for any page, by the user simplying pressing the ‘…’ tab at the top of the photo, then selecting the option ‘turn on push notifications’.

Other options? Well Instagram has stressed the point that users will be seeing what they want in their feed, which means if they are engaging with your posts, then your photos will still be appearing in their feed. So challenge yourself. Create even more engaging content to ensure your followers stay engaged.
