Def Leppard, Radiohead, The Cure, Janet Jackson, Roxy Music and Zombies are the latest musicians to join the esteemed club, plus Stevie Nicks, who is the first woman to ever enter the Hall twice after first being inducted with Fleetwood Mac in 1998.
The announcement follows the nominations reveal just two months ago. Def Leppard won the Hall of Fame fan vote earlier in the week, and their induction is set to apply to all current members – Joe Elliott, Phil Collen, Vivian Campbell, Rick Savage, and Rick Allen – plus former guitarists Steve Clark and Pete Willis.
Radiohead join the Hall after becoming eligible last year, 25 years on since the release of ‘Creep’. The band has been notably indifferent about the prospect of being inducted in the past, with Ed O’Brien commenting on the matter in a 2017 interview with Esquire.
“As a British band, it’s one of those things that it’s very lovely to be nominated, but we don’t quite culturally understand it. It’s a very American thing … It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies. We haven’t had great experiences. I would never want to disrespect anything because obviously some amazing artists have been nominated. But if I’m honest I don’t understand it.
“…I’m just speaking as a fan of American music, I would have thought that Dr. Dre should have been in there two years ago. His name should be first on the list way ahead of Radiohead.”
