After two decades of exclusivity through Gibson Custom, the legendary Les Paul Custom has returned to Gibson's main USA production line with the new Les Paul Custom 70s series.

The Gibson Les Paul Custom, first introduced in 1953 as an upscale version of the Les Paul model, was originally requested by Les Paul himself, who wanted a black version of his signature guitar that “looked like a tuxedo.” Now this model has officially returned to the lineup.

Four stunning finishes mark the highly anticipated release of the Les Paul Custom 70s series: Ebony, Buttercream Top, Tobacco Burst and Wine Red. Each guitar captures the essence of 1970s craftsmanship that made these instruments icons among guitar heroes who championed Les Paul Customs during that era.

The series faithfully recreates the classic 1970s specifications, including the distinctive headstock volute that has become synonymous with Nashville production. Three-piece maple tops showcase premium construction, while multi-ply binding adds that unmistakable Custom aesthetic. Period-correct witch hat control knobs and diamond-shaped Posi-Lock strap buttons complete the authentic 1970s experience.

Calibrated T-Type humbuckers deliver the era’s signature tone through hand-wired electronics with Orange Drop capacitors. The bound ebony fingerboard features 22 medium jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl block inlays, topped by the famous Custom Split Diamond headstock inlay that originated with the Gibson Super 400.

The gold hardware throughout features an aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, an aluminium Stop Bar tailpiece and smooth-turning Grover Rotomatic tuners with Keystone buttons for reliable tuning stability.

As an added bonus, each guitar includes a hardshell case for protection on tour, travelling and while in storage.

These 1970s Les Paul Customs represent some of the most appreciated guitars on the vintage market, serving as physical representations of the transition from Kalamazoo to Nashville production that occurred fifty years ago.
