The Green Day bassist's beloved instrument gets a modern revival, bringing the sound of Dookie to players worldwide.

Epiphone has launched the Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3, a signature bass developed alongside the five-time GRAMMY Award-winning Green Day bassist. This modern take on the legendary Gibson Grabber G-3 celebrates the instrument that helped define punk rock’s breakthrough from underground clubs to mainstream radio—including its pivotal role on Green Day’s landmark 1994 album Dookie, which marked its 30th anniversary earlier this year.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Known for his punchy bass lines, dynamic vocals, and electrifying stage presence, Dirnt has been a driving force behind one of music’s most influential and long-running bands. The new Grabber G-3 reflects that legacy with a design blending classic construction and modern performance features.

The bass features a double-cutaway maple body paired with a 34-inch scale, three-piece maple neck for smooth playability and solid resonance. Depending on your chosen finish (Silverburst or Natural) you’ll get either an ebony or maple fretboard, both sporting black abalone dot inlays and 20 medium jumbo frets. Hardware highlights include the classic Grabber “V” headstock shape, open-gear bass tuners with historic clover buttons, and a Leo Quan Badass II bridge delivering powerful attack, sustain and full adjustability. A bone nut enhances resonance, while strings run through the body and anchor with ferrules on the back for rich tone and lasting sustain.

Three Gibson G-3 pickups, handcrafted in Nashville at the Gibson Pickup Shop, sit at the bass’ core. Wired in a unique “buck-and-a-half” configuration, these pickups offer versatile humbucking combinations via a three-way toggle switch: neck and middle, all three engaged, or middle and bridge. Master volume and tone controls provide a wide palette of noise-free tones.

Each bass ships with a hardshell case, making it ready for everything from bedroom practice and local gigs to stadium tours.

Formed by Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt in the late ’80s, Green Day has become one of rock’s most enduring punk institutions. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, the band has released fourteen studio albums to date, including the Double Diamond-certified Dookie and the punk rock opera turned bizarre-but-it-works Broadway musical American Idiot. Their latest album Saviors was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
