Bluesfest confirms that 2021 festival will only feature Australian artists

Words by Will Brewster

The festival was set to feature the likes of Bon Iver, Patti Smith and George Benson.

For the first time in the festival’s history, the 2021 edition of Byron Bay Bluesfest will feature an exclusively Australian artist line-up.

In an announcement yesterday, the festival confirmed that next year’s event would go ahead without any international artists due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

While the festival had previously announced their intentions to have an array of global talent perform at the event next April, an ever-increasing emphasis upon an all-Australian line-up – and a lack of new international artists on the line-up since mid-July – seemed to hint at the inevitable news we’ve received today.

Nevertheless, ticket sales for the upcoming event are rolling strong, with Bluesfest revealing that they’ve nearly allocated a 70% ticket capacity for next year’s festival.

“We are fast approaching 70% sold out for what we believe will be our approved capacity,” the festival said in a statement.

“We look forward to celebrating the return of live music and the finest artists this country has to offer with you at Bluesfest 2021. We can’t wait to see you there!”

Bluesfest is happening from April 1-5, 2021 at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm. For tickets and the full lineup, visit the Bluesfest website.
