Grainferno is Baby Audio’s most ambitious synthesizer to date, a plugin that breaks samples apart at the grain level and reconstructs them into new textures. Plenty of sonic territory is well within reach, from synth-like tonal instruments to lush evolving atmospheres and volatile digital noise.

A standout feature is the ability to load two independent source files and morph between them in real time. Doing this opens up creativity, letting producers blend loops, samples, or full mix stems and find new sounds somewhere in between. Where Grainferno separates itself from other granular synths is its grain speed. If you choose to push the rate high enough and grains stop functioning as texture, they cross into the audio range and begin behaving like oscillators. At those speeds, you end up with a playable synth voice that carries the tonal character of whatever audio file you fed it, which is a different and surprisingly musical way to approach synthesis.
Modulation runs on a drag-and-drop system that stays exploratory without requiring deep technical knowledge, and for those new to granular synthesis, per-preset Macro controls, six quickstart templates, and a solid factory sample library make it easy to get started.
Baby Audio has also packed in a suite of onboard effects drawing from their own catalogue of algorithms, making Grainferno a self-contained platform for granular sound design rather than just a sound source you mix elsewhere.
Launching with over 300 presets from Virtual Riot, dnksaus, and Francis Preve, there’s plenty of ready-made land to explore straight out of the box.
