Audiomodern has released Wired, a new virtual instrument built from vintage and modular analog synthesizers that leans hard into tape-soaked warmth, bit-reduced grit and the hazy aesthetic of dream pop.
Audiomodern’s Wired is built around a very specific sound – soft, slightly degraded and emotionally weighted. It’s a texture that can be hard to describe, but it’s immediately recognisable, especially if you’re in the dream pop world.
Built from recordings of vintage and modular analog synths, Wired is a curated collection of lo-fi synth tones and blissful sonic textures with dream pop at its core influence. The character here is all tape-tinged warmth and raw, murky depth – tones that breathe, shift and unfold rather than sit static in a mix. From nostalgic ambiences to emotive melodic layers, the library is aimed at producers looking for movement and analog soul rather than pristine clarity.

The instrument ships with 1 GB of audio material and 40 fully unlocked presets, all running through Audiomodern’s proprietary Soundbox engine. Soundbox is a free MPE-compatible sampler that’s available on both desktop and iPad, and Wired imports seamlessly to either. The engine itself is well worth knowing about, as it’s highly customisable, with modular FX, LFO, a Vector Engine and mix-and-match sound combinations that push the tonal possibilities well beyond the preset list.
Having fully unlocked presets is a meaningful touch. Too many sample libraries lock you into sounds that are close but not quite right; with Wired, every patch is open to be pulled apart, reshaped and made your own.
The lo-fi and dream pop production space has grown considerably over the past few years, and the demand for high-quality source material that sounds organic rather than digitally manufactured has grown with it.
