Serato Studio has established itself as a capable beat-making DAW with modern, sample-based production tools, including slick sampling, stem separation, drum sequencing, virtual instruments, audio tracks, effects, and exclusive sound packs. SLAB extends that power into the physical realm, being a dedicated hardware control that feels natural for both experienced producers and those making their first track.
“We’re so excited to announce the launch of SLAB,” said Yoshinori Kataoka, President and CEO of AlphaTheta Corporation. “This product was designed to empower DJs, artists, and creators to explore new creative possibilities and more intuitive ways to make music. From people who want to make their first-ever track to experienced producers, we can’t wait to see how music lovers around the world will use SLAB to turn their ideas into sound.”
The controller’s layout prioritises intuitive operation, with carefully selected functions and a design emphasising hands-on control. Every detail aims to help users navigate Serato Studio with confidence and speed, no matter if you’re sketching initial ideas or at the often tedious step of refining arrangements. SLAB isn’t locked to a single application either—its general-purpose MIDI mode supports Serato Sample, Serato DJ Pro, and various other DAWs, making it a versatile addition to existing setups.
One standout feature is the built-in Stems Level control, which expands on Serato Studio’s proprietary stem separation capabilities. Users can isolate and precisely control the volume of individual track elements (vocals, melody, drums, and bass) bringing detailed expression and creative freedom that goes beyond basic mixing. This functionality bridges production and performance seamlessly, allowing producers to transition from studio work to live sets without switching gear.
Young Ly, CEO of Serato, emphasised the significance of the collaboration: “For 3 decades, Serato has been a leader in providing best-in-class software for DJs and music producers, and now we’re incredibly excited to dive into the world of hardware by working with AlphaTheta to co-develop SLAB, the first native controller for Serato Studio.”
SLAB is available now, offering producers of all levels a solid foundation for modern music making, with the flexibility to grow alongside their creative journey.
