A huge Sound System clash is coming to Melbourne’s Town Hall this June

Words by Will Brewster

Introducing Heavy Congress.

Heads up, bass junkies: some of Melbourne’s biggest Sound Systems are coming together for the biggest ever live gathering of Sound Clash culture the city has ever seen.

Explore all the latest in touring news and live events over here.

As part of the city’s newly announced RISING program, Heavy Congress will see nine of the most prominent local Sound System crews come together for a free event that seeks to celebrate the age-old aural tradition of cranking up customised speaker stacks and busting a move for the love of music.

The event, which is set to take place on Sunday June 6 at Melbourne’s iconic Town Hall, will combine the systems of these nine Sound System crews from all parts of city, including Coburg, Reservoir, Brunswick, North Melbourne and Campbellfield.

Each crew will also represent a range of genres and musical origins, spinning styles such as dub, reggae, jungle, drum ‘n bass, hip hop, zouk, Colombian Picó and techno.

The Heavy Congress crew will be comprised of members from local mainstay crews such as Adrian’s Wall, Exodus Hifi, System Unknown Sound, Virus Sound System, Stick Mareebo Productions, Field Theory, Unite Sound, DIY Hi-Fi Soundsystem, Heartical Hi-Powa, El Gran Mono and Housewifes’s Choice Sound, with Northside Records’ funk boss Chris Gill also signing on to appear at the event.

Entry to the Heavy Congress meet-up is free for the public, however, bookings are essential to maintain your place and ensure things are nice and COVIDSafe.
