Today, Crooked Colours have followed up on LANGATA with brand new single ‘Love Language’, a crisply produced cut that serves as a reminder of just how good this group truly are. Driven by a rumbling groove and adorned with twinkling synth parpeggios, ‘Love Language’ adds another banger to the Crooked Colours canon, and acts as an intruiging taste of what might be around the corner from the beloved three-piece.
With the new track out in the world today, we thought we’d put Crooked Colours to the test by getting them to rank up their ten favourite Australian dance tracks to discover a mere portion of the bangers that have inspired the group’s sound over the years.
Crooked Colours: ‘There is little we need to say about these tracks – you all know and love them. These are just some of our favourite Australian dance music tracks that helped to shape us.’
‘Love at First Sight’ – Kylie Minogue
Arguably a perfect house track, the Princess of Pop comes out with this dancefloor banger. It is one of those tracks that whenever you are at a loss at what to play, this is it.
‘UFO’ – Sneaky Soundsystem
‘Like many of the tracks on this list, it is due to the nostalgia and timelessness that this track has on all of us.’
‘Lights and Music’ – Cut Copy
‘One of those tracks to play at day drinks or while having a steamy late night sesh. This song has followed us through the years and has lost none of its charm.’
‘Talk Like That’ – The Presets
‘An absolute behemoth of a track.’
Leon: ‘I saw this at the Belvoir Amphitheatre, and this was the first track they played. It blew me away. Forever my favourite track of theirs.’
‘Parlez Vous Francais?’ – Art Vs Science
‘Their first EP blew our socks off and we knew we wanted them in this list, but had a hard time choosing which track. We eventually agreed on the French tongue twister due to its incredible display in the Hottest 100 in 2009 at #2.’
‘Shooting Stars’ – Bag Raiders
‘Timeless. This track is about to celebrate its 10 year birthday and if I am not mistaken, it may have reached even greater heights now than it did when it was released.’
‘Hyperparadise (Flume Remix)’ – Hermitude
‘When this came out you couldn’t escape it. It was like ‘Thrift Shop’, but good.’
Liam: ‘I saw this live at Parklife 2012 in Perth. I had just watched Flume finish on this, then walked across to Hermitude and they were playing it as well. It was dope!’
‘Idea Of Happiness’ – Van She
‘When we first came together as a band, this was the track that we all instantly bonded over. Van She are one of our all-time favourite bands and this track is their peak.’
‘Pizza Guy’ – Touch Sensitive
‘You wanted it, you got it. Best damn pizza delivery ever. Touch you’re a legend.’
‘Chameleon’ – Pnau
‘This song hit hard. Being huge fans of Pnau’s first album, we were blown away like the rest of Australia after they dropped this absolute heater.’
