Five Records That Shaped Black Rheno’s Noise Smasher

Oozing Wound – Earth Sucks

These guys can play the same riff over and over and keep you hooked, and then they will keep playing it until blood comes out of your eardrums. But I promise you will love it every single time. This album goes to show that to write a good song you just need to keep it simple (and loud). Great sounding album with a very raw sound, far away from the polished super productions of many metal bands. I really admire how they’ve managed to find their own sound and stick to it.

Entombed – To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth

It’s a classic and an album that I’ve been spinning since my early teens. I’m a big fan of Swedish death metal, and I could be naming many other bands, but this album has got it all. It’s heavy, it’s groovy as, and it’s original. At the time this came out, no one was doing what these guys were doing. They showed the world that you can mix different styles that didn’t coexist up until then, and deliver it in a way that just makes you wanna headbang forever.

Magrudergrind – Magrudergrind

HM-2 grindcore played extra fast. Brutal and honest. Raw and confronting. This album has got that energy that is hard to find. It takes you on a journey from start to finish, with tempo ups and downs, but always heavy. No surprises, just delivery.

Superjoint – Use Once And Destroy

This album changed the way I saw heavy music back then and opened up a whole new door to me. I always felt that there was something missing from what I was listening to or writing back then – everything felt the same. Then, the first time I heard ‘Fuck Your Enemy’ I just felt like destroying shit… for the very first time ever. It was a new feeling for me. What was it about those hooky, bluesy, heavy unpolished riffs? I don’t know, but I’m still trying to figure it out 15 years later.

Cancer Bats – Hail Destroyer

Not many albums are good from start to finish and not many albums leave you impressed song after song. How do you keep the energy of your record going throughout the whole album? If you have ever wondered this, this album might be able to shed some light onto that question. There’s no BS here, just good riffs one after the other and no slowing down. The party is on.
