Curated by a mix of industry professionals, First Nations Elders and specialist researchers, this year’s Australian Women in Music Awards introduces three new award categories, including image making, classical music and (our personal favourite) music journalism. There’s also a variety of awards celebrating and recognising the acheivements of women in the fields of songwriting, humanitarian efforts in music, photography, creative leadership, studio production, filmmaking, artistic excellence and more.
In addition to the awards and performances, the Australian Women in Music Awards are also planning on hosting a forum series to spotlight inclusivity and diversity within three varying musical fields. This year’s forum topics include Visibility in Hip Hop – Women on the Front Line, The Art of Rebellion -The Intersection of Music and Politics and Image Making – The Changing Face of Music.
Nominations and tickets for this year’s event, which is set to go down on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 October in Brisbane, are open now. Last year’s inaugural event saw the likes of Amy Shark, NGAIIRE and Jen Cloher take home awards, with Adalita, Emily Wurramara and Kate Ceberano performing on the night.
Head to the Australian Women in Music Awards website for nominations, tickets and further details.
