What piece of equipment do you have to show us today?
My BOSS reverb pedal RV-5.
How did you come across this particular item?
We’ve been using BOSS’ reverb pedal since the day the previous model RV-3 was released. We’ve used them for all of MONO’s albums.
What is it that you like about it so much?
The pedal allows us to create fantasy-like, beautiful sounds like a piano’s sustain pedals.
How do you use it and how has it shaped the way you write music?
We generally plug our reverb pedals first. If you think about it from a general perspective, it’s a little strange, but we add fuzz, overdrive and distortion after adding reverb. This allows unique shoegaze sounds to be born.
Tell us a little about what you have coming up.
We hope to create shows that are like escaping out from darkness to light by controlling a huge range of dynamic sounds, from beautifully sad, clean tones to an end of the century-like noise. We tour Australia this November. We look forward to it.
Mono’s Australian tour kicks off Wednesday November 8 in Brisbane. Requiem For Hell is out now via Temporary Residence Limited/Pelagic Records.
