REVIEWED: CRAFTER HiLITE DE SP ACOUSTIC GUITAR

The construction and build seem solid and the intonation and action were good. After bashing out some initial open chords, I was pleasantly surprised with the clear tone and resonance. Obviously a dreadnaught styled guitar lends itself to big chords and picking, but the HiLite also sounds nice with fingerstyle playing and more subtle stylings. The DE SP also goes the semi acoustic route with controls for presence, treble, middle and bass, with a phase switch and volume control also included as well as an easy to use tuner.

Entry level acoustic guitars are an interesting thing. Yes, a more affordable price is often attractive to those potential buyers as they navigate into the perhaps uncharted waters of guitardom. However, it’s also those players that require a guitar that is easy to play and won’t hinder the learning process. Luckily the HiLite DE SP fits the bill and ticks both the likeable price box and the easy to play/get me started box. It has a classic look with clear and zingy tones, and is a good all round acoustic that won’t break the bank.
