The JBL BandBox Solo and Trio is a practice amp, a speaker, a pedalboard, and a backing track tool in one.

Imagine being able to pull the guitar track out of any song in real time, right on the device, without an internet connection, and just… play it yourself? That’s the pitch for the JBL BandBox, and it’s a pretty compelling one.

The BandBox range comes in two iterations: the Solo for individual players, and the Trio for bands and group sessions. Both are built around Stem AI, JBL’s on-device vocal and instrument separation technology that lets you isolate or remove vocals, guitar, or drums from any track in real time. It works offline, processing everything on the device in real time, which is a meaningful distinction for anyone who’s dealt with latency or connectivity issues mid-session.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

The Solo is aimed at guitarists, singer-songwriters, and bedroom players who want a compact, fully featured setup without a pedalboard’s worth of gear. One guitar and microphone input, 18W RMS output, and a suite of practice tools including a tuner, metronome, looper, and drum machine. Amp models and effects — phaser, chorus, reverb and more — are accessible via the JBL One app, along with full control over the Stem AI separation. There’s also USB-C output to route audio directly into your DAW, which is handy for anyone who records at home.

The Trio scales things up for group use. Four instrument inputs, a built-in four-channel mixer, 135W of output across a 6.5″ woofer and two 2.5″ tweeters, and a replaceable battery good for up to 10 hours. Microphone effects, including reverb and delay, are also on board, so vocalists aren’t left out of the equation.

Both units connect to any Bluetooth source for music streaming and feature an integrated screen for navigating tools and settings without diving into the app every time.

For practice tools, the BandBox is a smart, all-in-one solution — and the on-device Stem AI alone makes it worth a serious look.

The JBL Bandbox is available exclusively through JB Hi-Fi and jbl.com.au.
