The legendary reed-based electric piano brand has given its formal backing to Rhodes' software recreation, marking the first time Wurlitzer has supported a digital version of its classic instrument.

Two names that defined electric piano history have joined forces in an unexpected partnership. Rhodes Music and Wurlitzer have announced that the Rhodes Wurli plugin will be rebranded as Wurlitzer by Rhodes, following official endorsement from the Wurlitzer family – a first for the iconic reed-based electric piano brand.

“We are proud to see the Wurlitzer sound brought to life so beautifully by the Rhodes team. It is the most faithful recreation yet,” said Luise Wurlitzer, speaking on behalf of the Wurlitzer family. “Together, we have created what we believe is the finest Wurlitzer plug-in, one that truly captures the soul of the instrument.”

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Originally released last year as Rhodes Wurli, the plugin itself remains unchanged. It’s still the same deeply musical recreation of the classic Wurlitzer sound, just carrying an updated name that reflects its new official status. Built on the Rhodes Anthology engine, it features detailed sampling, vintage-style controls, and 200A-inspired amp and speaker models designed to capture the warm, dynamic character that made the original instrument indispensable across decades of recordings.

This endorsement represents a rare moment in music technology. Both Rhodes and Wurlitzer have shaped musical expression for more than fifty years, each defining the sound of countless recordings from soul and jazz to rock and pop. Having these two legendary brands collaborate on a single virtual instrument marks a significant milestone, particularly given that Wurlitzer has never previously given formal backing to a digital recreation of its electric pianos.

The plugin is available now in VST, AU and AAX formats through the official Rhodes Music store. Rhodes is also offering a 14-day trial for those wanting to experience the officially endorsed Wurlitzer sound before committing.

For Rhodes, this partnership continues the momentum following the launch of their MK8 hardware instrument, which saw the brand return to manufacturing physical electric pianos with a design philosophy rooted in Harold Rhodes’ original principles. Combining that hardware heritage with software that now carries official Wurlitzer endorsement positions Rhodes as a company bridging electric piano history with modern production needs.

Both studio producers seeking authentic vintage tones and live performers after expressive electric piano sounds now have access to what both brands are calling the definitive Wurlitzer plugin.
