Patience Hodgson and John Patterson are a dynamic duo renowned for their kinetic, multi-coloured performative approach. Electrifying and bubbly, The Grates have been a key exponent of indie rock and pop in the local scene throughout the last 10 years. It makes their coupling with the vibrant Flaming Lips and the enigmatic Wayne Coyne sound like a match made in heaven.
The Grates last release, 2014’s Dream Team, was infused with an overriding sense of freedom and good-natured fun. The Flaming Lips, on the other hand, most recently released 2014’s With a Little Help from My Fwends, which harked back to the Beatles and that Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album that was kind of a big deal.
Ahead of appearances at Sydney Festival and MOMA FOMA in Hobart, this will be the only chance to see them lay everything to bare in a headline performance.
