As previously announced, two of the headline acts of MMW 2015 will be San Franciscan psych-rock royalty The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Berlin’s sound-art mastermind Robert Henke (who will also appear as Monolake), while the location of MMW’s first ever carbon neutral flagship venue will be the disused basement and adjoining rooms of the former Royal Women’s Hospital on Swanston Street featuring an opening night party with a completely Melbourne lineup of Gypsy & The Cat, The Harpoons and Dorsal Fins.
Announced today, in 2015 MMW will pry open basement doors, activate laneways, light up the silver screen and illuminate some of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues, and also feature a range of industry events, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, panel discussions and more.
Back at the flagship venue, labyrinthine music event Swell will reinvent 12 of the venue’s forgotten rooms with secret one-off performances, while also staging shows from the likes of Monolake, Banoffee, Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks, Public Opinion Six, PVT, Kenton Slash Demon, The Harpoons, Cobblestone Jazz, DZ Deathrays and many more. Ensuring it’s an all-day destination, above ground will feature a beer garden and food truck zone with weekday Lunch Box Sessions from 1pm – 2pm, as well as DJs from 5pm – 8pm, including Rat & Co DJs, Edd Fisher, Jim Lawrie, Ella Thompson, Woodes and more.
The ever-popular Live Music Safari will return once more for a city-wide extravaganza of free gigs, featuring over 50 local artists including Mesa Cosa, Oddisee, Quarter Street, Terrible Truths, Sleep D, Dan White, Friendships, Kylie Auldist and more over 14 local venues.
Other highlights of the gargantuan program include a roller jam and block party presented by The Foreign Brothers and Mz Rizk, a two stage party at Old Melbourne Gaol courtyard, The Great MMW Bike Ride, New Orleans Street Party, Brunch Gigs, A Club Called Trish, live performances that marry music and film at ACMI, collaborations with ACCA, MPavilion, Docklands Library, The Hellenic Museum and Rooftop Cinema, early morning rave Morning Gloryville and industry conference Face The Music.
MMW 2015 will take place from Friday November 13 until Friday November 20. Tickets on the MMW website.
