After a Dio hologram was activated at Wacken festival in Germany last year, a full world tour has now been announced to take the spirit of Dio on the road on the ‘Dio Returns’ world tour.
The Dio hologram will be backed by a live band consisting of musicians (which as far as we can tell, none of which are holograms) from Dio Disciples including Craig Goldy, Simon Wright, Scott Warren and Bjorn Englen, and has the blessing of his widow, Wendy Dio.
The Dio estate worked with a hologram company called Eyellusion to bring footage shot for the late singer’s 1986 ‘Sacred Heart Tour’ to life. “I am sure he is giving us his blessing with this hologram project,” said Wendy Dio to Rolling Stone. “It gives the fans that saw Ronnie perform an opportunity to see him again and new fans that never got to see him a chance to see him for the first time. We hope everyone will enjoy the show that we have all worked so hard to put together.”
While no details on the Australian dates have been announced, you can clearly see Australia listed on the official tour poster below.
