The Mars Volta announce huge 18-LP vinyl box-set

Words by Will Brewster

Featuring their entire discography as well as unheard cuts, photos and more.

Modern progressive rock titans The Mars Volta have announced the impending release of La Realidad De Los Sueños, a sprawling collectors edition boxset that compiles all of their studio albums and other unreleased tracks onto no less than 18 LPs.

Limited to only 5,000 copies worldwide, La Realidad De Los Sueños will be released on Friday April 23. The boxset consists of the band’s entire discography on 180 gram vinyl as well as the never-before-released Landscape Tantrums, a collection of unfinished recordings from the De-Loused In The Comatorium sessions.

A hard cover book with exclusive behind-the-scenes images of the band and two collectable pins will also be included in the immense package, which will be housed in a Mars Volta designed box’.

Although The Mars Volta officially disbanded in 2013, rumours of a reunion have been floating around for the better part of two years now, with frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala hinting at a return for the group in 2019.

Recently, guitarist and band leader Omar Rodriguez-Lopez minted a deal with Cloud Hill Notes that gave the German company ownership of his company Rodriguez-Lopez Productions and The Mars Volta’s publishing catalogue, which led to the band’s 2002 EP Tremulant being uploaded to streaming services for the first time last Friday.
