In a series of (now deleted) tweets, frontman Cedrix Bixler-Zavala seemingly confirmed the fledging rumours that he and guitarist/mad scientist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez had bunkered down in the studio to work on new material.
As reported by Consequence Of Sound, the former frontman of the prog-rock trailblazers responded to a fan who tweeted “I dream with you guys giving TMV a new chapter” with the tantalising hint that “It’s happening,” giving an insider basis to various claims that the dynamic duo were working on new music. Of course, this kicked off a bit of a frenzy within the circles of many music nerds (us included), with many prog loyalists itching for a new fix of spicy brain bending sounds from the afro clad duo.
The Mars Volta previously disbanded in 2013 after frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala expressed his discontent at Rodriguez-Lopez’s decision to focus on other projects. However, the two managed to bridge their differences the next year with the launch of their new project Antemasque, which later led to the reformation of their celebrated post-hardcore band At The Drive-In.
