Source Audio takes ambient effects into uncharted territory with the Encounter pedal

The new Encounter pedal explores otherworldly delay and reverb combinations beyond traditional sounds.

Source Audio has released the Encounter Ambient Delay+Reverb, and while it shares a control surface design with Source Audio’s well-regarded Collider Delay+Reverb, the Encounter takes a different approach. Rather than classic sounds, this pedal focuses on ethereal and never-before-heard delay and reverb effects.

Keep up with the latest news here.

The ambient effects pedal houses six delay and six reverb engines that can run individually or in any combination, including dual delay or dual reverb setups. Full MIDI functionality and stereo ins and outs provide serious routing flexibility with series, parallel or split stereo options. Each footswitch controls its own effect independently, essentially giving you two separate pedals in one compact package.

Sounds that push boundaries

The Encounter’s effect engines are a blend of both brand-new creations and enhanced versions of favourites from Source Audio: namely, the Ventris Dual Reverb and Nemesis Delay. Encounter’s engines genuinely break new ground: Hypersphere reverb envisions reverberations from an ever-expanding room without walls, ceiling or floor. Kaleidoscope delay creates cascading, harp-like effects. Shimmers deliver dual-pitched shimmer treatments that add ethereal textures to any source material.

What the Encounter offers

Six reverb engines: Featuring new Hypersphere (ever-expanding room reverb) and Shimmers (dual-pitched shimmer), plus reimagined Reverse, Lo-F and Swell reverbs
Dual processing power: Two identical 56-bit signal processors that handle massive computational demands
Flexible routing: Series, parallel or split stereo configurations with full stereo ins and outs
Independent footswitches: Left controls delay (plus tap tempo) and right controls reverb
128 presets: 8 accessible onboard and 120 via MIDI program change messages
Complete MIDI integration: 5-pin DIN input and through jacks for external control
Expression control: Assignable to any knob combination with programmable depth and direction
Universal Bypass: Choose between analog buffered or relay-based true bypass
Analog dry through: Completely unaffected dry signal in parallel mode
100% wet option: Dry kill function for effects loop use
Compact design: 4.5″ x 4.5″ x 2″ footprint with professional build quality

Power and connectivity

The Encounter requires a 9V DC power supply with 300mA capacity (pedal draws 280mA) and includes a USB connector cable with C to USB adapter. Stereo input and output jacks support mono, stereo and dual mono configurations.

This is a pedal that’ll fit on your standard board, while bringing the processing power and sonic capabilities that would typically require multiple pedals. For players seeking atmospheric, ambient effects that go beyond traditional ‘verb and delay sounds, the Encounter opens up a world that wouldn’t otherwise be accessible in a single pedal format.
