alt-J – The Dream
The Dream is an album “where true-crime inspired stories and tales of Hollywood and the Chateau Marmont rub shoulders with some of the band’s more personal moments to-date”.
Both beauty and darkness lay side-by-side and seamlessly merge on the same track, a purposeful choice that pays dividends across the record. The band’s dazzling instrumentation has matured, there are still far out moments, but now they are deployed with an artful precision.
Snoop Dogg – Bacc On Death Row
News broke earlier this week that Snoop Dogg had bought Death Row Records as he said he was “thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value”.
He added that he looks forward to building the next chapter of Death Row, and in doing so, he has released his latest studio album. It sounds like much of what we have come to expect from the Doggfather with some awesome features including The Game really making an impact.
Spoon – Lucifer on the Sofa
Spoon relocated from Los Angeles to their hometown of Austin, Texas for the first time in more than a decade to record their 10th studio album.
Although it was written through the pandemic, it is one of their most grounded records they’ve released and lead-singer Britt Daniel’s chops and the band’s brilliant hooks are as sharp as they’ve ever been.
