Words by Mixdown Staff

He passed peacefully in his sleep according to his family.

Founding member and former drummer of Slipknot, Joey Jordison has passed at the age of 46.

Joey Jordison was a huge force in the heavy community, forming one of the most influential bands of the genre, serving as their drummer for many years and playing guitar in the Murderdolls.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021″ reads a statement from Jordison’s family. “Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.”

Jordison suffered from neurological disease transverse myelitis, which affected his ability to play the drums in the later part of his life. He worked hard in rehabilitation to beat it and eventually started playing the drums again.

No cause of death has been revealed by his family.

Joey had an interesting relationship to Slipknot since he was fired for what the band implied was drug use, but was actually the cause of his neurological disease. Nevertheless, the band posted black images across their socials in remembrance of one of their founding musicians and songwriters.
