Shure has updated its compact XLR-to-USB interface with new onboard processing features that make mobile recording with a professional microphone more accessible than ever.

If you’ve ever wished you could take your SM7B on the road without lugging around a full interface setup, the Shure MVX2U Gen 2 interface might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

Shure has refreshed its single-channel XLR-to-USB interface with a handful of welcome upgrades, keeping the compact and mobile-friendly form factor while adding onboard digital audio processing that handles the heavy lifting for you. Powered via USB-C, the unit works across desktop and mobile devices, including computers, smartphones, and tablets, covering both Apple and Android, with no external batteries or adapters required.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

The headline additions in Gen 2 are Auto Level Mode, a real-time Denoiser, and Shure’s Digital Popper Stopper™. Together, these tackle some of the most common frustrations in home and mobile recording. Auto Level Mode takes the guesswork out of gain staging, the denoiser helps tame background noise in less-than-ideal acoustic environments, and the Digital Popper Stopper removes the need for a physical pop filter – a handy space-saver when you’re recording on the go.

On the gain side, the MVX2U Gen 2 offers +60dB of clean gain, which is enough to drive even a notoriously hungry SM7B without issue. Condenser users are covered too, with +48V phantom power onboard. All of that is paired with a lower noise floor compared to the original – something you’ll appreciate with a sensitive mic and the gain pushed up. Audio is captured at 24-bit / 48kHz, and a zero-latency 3.5mm headphone output lets you monitor exactly what you’re recording in real time.

All processing features are accessible and adjustable via Shure’s MOTIV apps, which also give you control over gain, EQ, compression, limiter settings, and saved presets. Podcasters and streamers can also quickly select from Dark, Natural, or Bright tone profiles. Compatibility extends to most major DAWs, as well as conferencing software like Zoom and Teams.

At 100 grams, it can slip into basically any bag without a second thought. For anyone wanting the sound quality of an XLR microphone without being anchored to a traditional recording rig, the MVX2U Gen 2 makes a great option.
