The travelling metal festival returns with German progressive death metal masters Obscura and American atmospheric tech-death outfit Fallujah headlining shows across both countries.

Shred Fest 2026 is storming back to Australia and New Zealand this September with a lineup built around technical precision from the most acclaimednames and formidable local acts. German progressive death metal pioneers Obscura and American atmospheric tech-death force Fallujah headline the festival, supported by local heavyweights Ashen and Anoxia, plus special guests in every city.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Obscura return following two previous successful Australian tours and a New Zealand run, this time showcasing material from their latest release, A Sonication, as part of their ongoing world tour. Known for their technical virtuosity and progressive approach to death metal, they’ve become one of the most respected names in modern metal.

Fallujah bring their visionary brand of atmospheric technical death metal back down under, armed with tracks from their new album Xenotaph. Their blend of technical chops and transcendental soundscapes has carved out a unique space in the scene, making them essential viewing for anyone into forward-thinking extreme music.

Perth’s Ashen join the bill with their crushing death-doom sound, steeped in atmosphere and relentless groove. They’ll appear at all shows except Darwin, New Zealand, and Hobart. Sydney’s Anoxia round out the core lineup, channelling old-school death metal fury across their Canberra, Sydney, and Melbourne appearances.

Each city gets its own special guest, with Allocer in Perth, Tzun Tzu in Adelaide, Snake Mountain in Brisbane, Blackened Dred in Canberra, Besomora in Sydney, and Munitions in Melbourne. Darwin, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hobart special guests are still to be announced.
