A number of historical and iconic guitars that were fundamental in developing Sonic Youth’s sound will be up for sale, including a Koa Travis Bean TB1000A Artist electric guitar, which was stolen and later repurchased by the band. This particular model was played by Lee Ranaldo from 1995 to 1999, and again once recovered from 2002 to 2011.
Other notable inclusions are a Sunburst Gibson Firebird used in 1990 by Thurston Moore, a Fender Mocha Telecaster Deluxe used from 1987-2009 by Ranaldo, Jim O’Rourke and Mark Ibold, and a Red Epiphone Dot electric guitar used by Ranaldo from 2006-2009. The collection also features almost 100 vintage effects pedals owned and used by members of Sonic Youth throughout their career.
“For Sonic Youth fans, this is an incredible opportunity to own a piece of the band’s history, whether it’s a guitar that toured with the band for over a decade or a poster they used to promote a show,” said Reverb’s Jim Tuerk. “We’re excited to help the band get this gear and memorabilia into the hands of fans who will take it and make it a part of their own story.”
Prior to the release, fans are able to receive first round content released by nugs.net, who are contributing to an ongoing live archival release program featuring pivotal points throughout the band’s career. To top it all off, the Official Sonic Youth Reverb LP Shop has launched today, featuring rare and out-of-print records including test pressings and records from band’s members personal collections.
The Official Sonic Youth Reverb Shop will launch on Tuesday October 30 via Reverb.
