This is Melbourne Synth Festival’s inaugural event, and so Australia’s biggest music technology pop-up shop will kick things off in suitable style with a huge launch concert, headed by Luke Million, Honeysmack, Beatrice and Emah Fox . Some of these artists might also find their way into a bunch of special seminars and workshops throughout the rest of the weekend, although that lineup is as yet unconfirmed.
Saturday and Sunday is shaping up to be a giddy wonderland for electronic music producers, providing a rare opportunity to try out state of the art gear from 010 Music, Akai, Pittsburgh Modular, Propellerhead, Korg, Avid, M-Audio and plenty more. It’s important to remember where this dizzying technology comes from, so an immersive exhibition on the history of the synthesiser will also be on show. So far, product demos from Link Audio, Roland, Yamaha, Steinberg, Moog, Waldorf, and Buchla have been announced with more to come.
The festival is organised by the Australian Music Association, responsible for the extraordinary Melbourne Guitar Show. CEO Rob Walker hopes to see growth in the electronic music sector fostered by the Synth Festival in the same way the Guitar Show has encouraged the guitar community.
The Melbourne Synth Festival will go down at North Melbourne’s Meat Market from Friday November 23 – Sunday November 25. Tickets are available here, and can be purchased as launch, day or weekend passes.
