MARK KNOPFLER GETS A NEW SIGNATURE RANGE FROM GIBSON

As reported by Music Radar, the guitar is a replica of the ’58 Les Paul that Knopfler has favoured in his work since the mid 1990s, from 1995’s Golden Heart up to last year’s Tracker.

“When I checked the first prototype of my ’58 Les Paul Artist Historic Replica from Gibson Custom it sounded so good and played so well, I used it straight away on a recording session. These are amazing guitars,” said Knopfler.

The MK Les Paul will feature a fingerboard made from single pieces of Indian rosewood with hand-rolled binding, a mahogany neck and a maple top, with custom humbucker pickups under the hood. Just like his original guitar, the signature model will have a sunburst nitro-cellulose finish.

Only 300 copies of the instrument will be made, so opportunities to own one of these are obviously very limited. Of those 300, 50 will be hand aged and signed by Knopfler himself.

In the meantime here is a video of the Knopf discussing and playing the Gibson MK Les Paul.
