The G6131-MY pays homage to Young’s famous Gretsch Jet dubbed ‘The Beast’. Gretsch has gone to great lengths to ensure the full production run of this Custom Shop model retains the essential elements of the original, even incorporating a “DIY” pickup routes to replicate Young’s choice to strip out two of three pickups and the finish on ‘The Beast’.
Other features include a Space-Control bridge with ebony base, a chambered mahogany body, and a single high-output TV Jones Power’Tron pickup. The guitar further recognises its predecessor through simulated screw holes, chrome switch plugs, and a ‘60s-style tailpiece.
Malcolm Young, who passed away late last year, contributed to one of the most influential bands in Australian music history. He co-founded AC/DC – alongside his brother Angus – in 1973, and subsequently played as the band’s rhythm guitarist.
Following Young’s death, Gretsch released a Custom Shop edition to honour the late guitarist. This is the first time the guitar will be released as a full production run.
