Green Day is selling music gear to celebrate Dookie’s 25th anniversary

The Green Day Reverb shop, launching Thursday February 7, features items belonging to all three members of the pop-punk tri, although many eyes will be on frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s stash of nearly 50 guitars from his personal collection. Gear from the Dookie and Insomniac era features, including the Harmony Stella Parlor Acoustic Guitar used to record ‘F.O.D’ (with original board tape and guitar strings) and the Marshall 4×12 Cabinets still bearing the famous mud stains from their Woodstock 1994 performance.

Armstrong’s collection is also packed with a swathe of rare Les Pauls, including a 1958 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top  and a 1970s Gibson L6-S. Drummer Tre Cool is selling the OCDP Silver Sparkle Drum Kit that he set on fire during the Pop Disaster Tour in 2002, an Ayotte Green Stain Maple Drum Kit used live on the Insomniac tour in 1995 and plenty more. Armstrong and Cool explain the decision to purge their gear hoards in a video for Reverb below.

“I’m not doing it any justice sitting around when someone could be using this stuff,” Cool told Reverb. “I haven’t really sold anything ever—this is the first time. My psychiatrist said I have to do this.”

“After 30 years of collecting odds and ends and really good stuff…I have to sell some of it off,” Armstrong added.

The February 7 Reverb shop marks first time Green Day has sold off gear as a band. This isn’t Armstrong’s first auction-off however; in late 2017, the guitarist sold a selection of axes on Reverb that were primarily used in the Uno… Dos… Tré sessions.
