Charvel debut the Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 2

It seems like the guitar world has gotten Tele fever as of late – Godin and Dean also announced new T-style guitars last week. The Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 2 falls somewhere in between these two designs, offering an ash body with a contoured lower back bout and cut heel at the neck, letting you access higher frets with ease as well as making for a much more comfortable playing experience.

The Style 2 also features a graphite-strenghtened maple neck with a 12″-16″ compound radius as well as a caramelised maple fretboard with 24 frets, while a reversed Telecaster headstock makes for a uniquely Charvel look. Other appointments include pearloid dot inlays, Luminlay side dots and a Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut, as well as Charvel die-cast locking tuners and a Gotoh Custom 510 tremolo, with hardtail models also being available to purchase.

It looks like Charvel have gone all-out with the electronics for these new So-Cal Style 2 models, with Fishman Fluence Open Core PRF-COC humbuckers being loaded in the neck and bridge positions and selected via a three-way switch. There’s also a toggle switch to flip between PAF tones and a much hotter tone for each pickup, while a push/pull tone knob activates a third single coil voicing for both pickups. It literally looks like you should be capable of just about every tone imaginable with this configuration, which could be very dangerous indeed.

From what’s presented on paper, it looks like these new models are definitely worth keeping your eyes peeled for. Charvel have also made the So-Cal Style 2 available in a range of finishes, including Black Ash, Natural Ash, Satin Black and Snow White.
