It’s designed for close-miking instruments in orchestral applications and instruments like brass, string instruments, pianos, drums and percussion, and more, after rental companies demanded more economic solutions, with better handling, more reliability, and more modularity.
The mic is based around the brand-new KK 14 cardioid capsule which is “unlike anything that came before”, with reportedly six years of R’n’D developing the capsule which is now being manufactured in their Berlin factory.
Neumann believes they have “succeeded in redefining the potential of electret capsules” with decades of durability expected with its rugged titanium housing.
Neumann said they “had been dissatisfied with the sound delivered by electret solutions for quite some time”.
“Technicians and artists alike want greater substance, higher precision for low and medium frequencies and more openness.
At the same time, we wanted to finally be able to create electret microphones that offered constant performance, so that sound engineers would not have to continuously deal with production tolerances impacting sound level and frequency response.”
Neumann said that the self-adjusting spring-loaded systems prevent damage to sensitive surfaces of instruments while they are also introducing a wide range of connection options including mini-XLR, 3.5mm jack, Lemo and MicroDot connectors, and attachment options including nine mounts for various instruments including brass, strings, piano, and percussion.
The Neumann Miniature Clip Mic System will be available in 2022.
