Woodstock ’69 Box Set to be released to celebrate festival’s 50th Anniversary

Woodstock 50 – Back to the Garden – The Definitive 50th Anniversary Archive is due out August 2 from Rhino, and includes 267 previously unreleased tracks, a Blu-ray of the Director’s Cut of the Woodstock documentary film by Michael Wadleigh, a Woodstock Hardbound Book by Michael Lang, posters, prints, a guitar strap and more memorabilia.

The massive 38-disc set features almost every one of the 435 songs played at the inaugural festival, with over 36 hours of footage.

The 1969 festival became the mecca of all music, when 500 000 people flocked to a little field in upstate New York to see Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Creedence Cleerwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Band, The Grateful Dead and more perform.

Meawhile, the 50th Anniversary Woodstock Festival is preparing for a mammoth showcase with The Killers, Chance The Rapper, Jay-Z and Miley Cyrus poised to headline.

However, the festival has been thrown into turmoil with the news that main financial investors pulled their funding, despite payment already being made to some of their biggest artists. A statement from festival organisers last month denied the event’s cancellation, but as of yet, tickets are still not available despite the approaching August dates.
