Featuring a verse from FRANÇOISTUNES and a soulful, trap-inflected beat produced by Henry James, ‘Gag Order’ sees Thando dive into topics of cultural assimilation and race relations within Australia.
In a press statement released today, Thando discussed the influences behind the track further, stating “I come in giving a nod to the current race relations in the media at the moment. It creates a powerful statement about how perceived ‘sameness’ (the result of assimilation) comes undone when it really matters, so what’s the point of doing it [assimilating] anyway?” Check out the new track below.
As well as releasing ‘Gag Order,’ Thando has also announced details of her new EP Life In Colour, slated for release in October this year and featuring a number of prominent Zimbabwean-born artists from Melbourne. The R&B sensation is also set to hit the road on a run of festival dates next month – check out all the dates below.
