Stardust is set to tell the story of Bowie’s 1971 U.S tour that led to the birth of his Ziggy Stardust character. Announced back in February, the film also features Jena Malone as Bowie’s first wife Angie, and Marc Maron as his publicist.
Flynn is best known for his role in the Netflix series Lovesick, and also fronts a British folk-rock band Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit. It’s unknown whether he’ll be providing his own vocals for the movie, which at this stage may not even feature any David Bowie songs.
Interestingly enough, Stardust is not authorized by Bowie’s estate. Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, said in a series of tweets that he’s “pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for any biopic. … I would know.
“I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of Dad’s music in it, and I can’t imagine that changing. If you want to see a biopic without his music or the family’s blessing, that’s up to the audience.”
In other news, Bowie’s The Man Who Fell To Earth is set to be rebooted for television sometime next year.
