Yesterday and Today is The Beatles’ most infamous album cover, picturing all four members of the band dressed as butchers and covered with raw meat and dismembered doll parts. The 750,000 copies that were released were almost instantly recalled due to enormous backlash, making each copy extremely rare.
This particular copy of the record belonged to John Lennon and features original artwork by Lennon drawn inside the cover of the prototype. Lennon gifted the record to Beatles fan Dave Morrell in 1971, signing it, “To Dave from / John Lennon / Dec 7th 71”. Later, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr added their signatures to Morrell’s copy, both of which are still clearly legible as it heads to auction.
Heritage Auctions declare that to label the “unique, rare, and desirable Beatles item as ‘World Class’ is not hyperbole. If anything, it does not do it justice.”
