It’s been over two years since Polaris released their ARIA-nominated debut record The Mortal Coil, a record which flung the group into the spotlight and saw them hit the international tour circuit to double down on their efforts in the studio. The Death Of Me aims to reflect the grind the band put in over this period, seeing them bunker down in a home studio on the South Coast with their sound engineer Lance Prenc and Scott Simpson of Alpha Wolf to churn out a record full of punishing, brutal bangers.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, drummer, lyricist and songwriter Daniel Furnari spoke of the band’s desire to create something challenging for themselves and their fanbase without alienating those who fell in love with their original sound, saying “We wanted to walk a line between maintaining what’s defined our band and brought people to our music in the first place, while trying to write for ourselves and keep ourselves interested. Being our second full-length, we knew it was important for us to surprise the listener as well – nobody wants to hear the same record twice. We wanted to give them things they wouldn’t expect, take them to new places, but also for it to be definitively a Polaris record, building on what we’ve been working towards.”
Polaris have also unveiled a string of tour dates in support of The Death Of Me in February, linking up with Alpha Wolf, Japan’s Crystal Lake and US metalcore unit Wage War for what seems to be a huge headline run. Check out all the dates and details below – the band are also appearing at UNIFY Gathering this January, giving fans a chance to hear tracks from The Death Of Me prior to the record’s release.
