Pairing upper-register pianos and off-kilter drum grooves with his signature self-aware lyricism and vivid imagery, ‘Sanity’ eschews the smouldering soulful textures of Murphy’s Chet Faker moniker, acting as an extension from the textures explored on his Missing Link EP from 2017.
In a press statement released today, Murphy explains that the music for Run Fast Sleep Naked (scheduled for release on Friday 26 April) was recorded at Brooklyn’s Figure 8 studios, while the vocals for the record were tracked in a variety of locations around the world, including Japan, New Zealand, the United States and even the living room of his grandmother’s house in Australia.
Elaborating on this nomadic creative process, Murphy says – “It’s almost like I was finding different shapes and colours from around the world, and then bringing them back and putting them all together. If you sit in one space for a long period of time, you get settled and stop experiencing the world in a new way. There’s a kind of power in leaping into the void without set structures and systems in place.”
In addition to releasing ‘Sanity’ and announcing Run Fast Sleep Naked, Murphy has also shared details for three shows across Australia’s East Coast in May – suss out all the deets below.
