The pairing is a rekindling of a partnership that spans 40 years and over 22 releases, since their first collaboration on 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere album that featured hits ‘Cinnamon Girl,’ ‘Down by the River’ and ‘Cowgirl in the Sand.’
Notably, the new recordings will not feature guitarist Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro, who has been ever-present since 1975. Instead, Nils Lofgren will take to the studio, just as he did in the group’s 1971 album Crazy Horse without Neil Young.
Backed by Crazy Horse instrumentalists Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina, Young and Lofgren will know each other well, having originally cut Tonight’s the Night in 1971 together. Although they have sparsely played together throughout the years, they all appeared in last year’s commemoration appearance of the Roxy album in California.
