MICK HARVEY’S INTOXICATED WOMEN

The album takes its title and inspiration from the many duets that the French songwriter recorded with female vocalists, including Brigitte Bardot, France Gall, and Juliette Greco. In their place Harvey has teamed up with a series of guest singers, including Channthy Kak from the Cambodian Space Project, Terry’s Xanthe Waite, Sophia Brous and Jess Ribeiro.

The series has been a labor of love for Harvey, who was inspired by the recent reissued versions of the first two volumes to return to the concept.

“After the initial recordings for [last album] Delirium Tremens, JP Shilo and I continued investigating the duets and female songs, many of which were unknown to me,” says Harvey. “So it became a voyage of discovery into quite a lot of material I hadn’t heard before. There are even a couple of songs for which the only versions existing from the 60s are from TV performances Serge gave.”

The album’s first single has also been released, titled ‘Contact’, the song was originally released in 1969 with Bardot on vocals, and this time around features both Waite and Kak in her place.

Intoxicated Women by Mick Harvey will be released on Friday January 20 through Mute/[PIAS]. It is available to preorder here.
