The album, ii, was written in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Madeira, and was inspired and shaped by the cities of residence, sometimes literally – with field recording and sampling used on the album.
The group spent four weeks in each city and performed a live concert at the end of each month’s stay, which prepared them well for the studio where the album was recorded live with no overdubs.
The set-up is simple. Synthesisers, drum samplers, vocals, effects pedals and a bass guitar are used to create sound sketches, which were refined eventually and turned into songs. The album was recorded at Vox-Ton in Berlin in late 2015.
