Immerse yourself in Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes’ lucid jazz-funk jams

Two of London’s best musical exports in recent years, Misch and Dayes have linked up again on the totally improvised cut ‘Kyiv’, featuring Rocco Palladino (Pino’s very own offspring!) on bass. It’s the third time we’ve heard from the group in recent months following the release ‘Lift Off’ and ‘What Kinda Music’, which are both set to appear on the album of the same name when it’s released via Blue Note Recordings on Friday April 24.

Recorded live in the Ukraine after filming the video for ‘Lift Off’ last month, ‘Kyiv’ sees Dayes, Misch and Palladino play to their strengths for three minutes of jazz-funk bliss, with the trio melding their technical chops and melodic sensibilities to monstrous effect. Dayes might just have the best pocket the South London scene has ever grooved to, while Misch’s slithering soloing atop of Palladino’s bass chords definitely puts the cherry on top of this one. Give it a listen below.
