On Thursday March 12 reports emerged that a person who attended the Golden Plain festival has now been diagnosed with COVID-19. A wave of panic engulfed Melbourne as people screened calls from their parents urging them to stock up on somewhere in the vicinity of 40-80 cans of chickpeas.
“In terms of the Golden Plains music festival, I understand now we’ve had one person who has been diagnosed … for COVID-19,” Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said in a press conference on Thursday.
Golden Plains organisers were quick to act, sending out an email to subscribers to say they were working closesly with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to provide appropriate advice for everyone who attended the March 7-9 festival.
This morning, Friday March 13, they were able to offer the reassuring news that “the individual to which the case relates was not unwell with the infection during the festival.”
What does this mean? “As a result, no further public health action is required by festival attendees, including workers, volunteers and artists,” said the statement.
