As a part of the Jack White-produced Blue Series of singles – where singers and bands travelling through Nashville are invited to stop by the label’s studio to be produced by the musician – Barnett recorded the A-side ‘Boxing Day Blues Revisited’, a subtly woven epilogue to debut album closer, ‘Boxing Day Blues’.
The track addresses the emptiness that materialises when treated with disdain by a person you deeply care for. It’s a reflective piece dosed with bittersweet sentiment, pushed and pulled by Barnett’s trademark candid lyricism. The B-side is a cover of the Roland S. Howard-penned ‘Shivers’ taken from his days in The Boys Next Door. Here Barnett throws caution to the wind as she retells an ironic tale of teenage love and mortality.
The limited edition 7” is set to be released world-wide late this year.
