An artist has programmed ‘Africa’ by Toto to play indefinitely in the Namib Desert

An artist has taken his love of ‘Africa’ by Toto to unprecedented levels by creating an installation that plays the track on a loop, seemingly forever.

Namibian-German artist Max Siedentopf created the solar installation – aptly titled ‘Toto Forever’ – in tribute to what he believes is “probably the most popular song of the last four decades.”

Siedentopf backed up his bold statement by placing seven white plinths in the middle of the Namib desert with six speakers and a solitary mP3 player  to play ‘Africa’ on an eternal loop.

The installation runs on solar power, which means the idea that the song could play forever isn’t as far-fetched as it might sound.

It’s not the first time ‘Africa’ has found itself repurposed in popular culture – remember the time someone rigged their car to play the track each time the door opened? – and given the song has 440 million views on YouTube (and counting), it’s not likely to be the last.

Bless the rains.
