Whether you’re looking for a casual job to keep the lights on between gigs or you’re on the hunt for a major career change, the music industry’s a tough place to crack into.

To help out, we’ve collated some of the best music jobs in Australia this week, with the inaugural column of 2021 spotlighting gigs from Hardware, CMI Music & Audio, Mega Music, Dream Music and Winston Music.

Artist and Tour Manager – Hardware Corporation (Melbourne)

Hardware, the legendary Melbourne promoters behind events like Festival X, Piknic Électronik, Pure and Stereosonic, are on the lookout for a savvy artist and touring manager to join their team and help pull off some of the best raves the city’s ever seen. Ideally, you’ll have previous experience in the Australian music industry as a high profile tour manager, with a large international network to boot.

Skills / Experience Required:

  • Have 3 written and verifiable references from reputable agents/promoters (1 from Australia 2 from overseas)
  • Have minimum 5 years experience in tour management with high profile international and Australian artists (please provide list of 4-5 artists you have worked with)
  • Possess extensive knowledge in electronic music (techno, house, general electronic)
  • Have verifiable experience in working in large festivals and multi-city tours in the artist services/touring areas
  • Have artist contract experience
  • Be personable and have good negotiation skills
  • Be proficient in MacOs, Google Workplaces, Microsoft Office and preferred A-Boss software

Tasks / Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee running of Hardwares’ “Music committee”, responsible for procuring and curating talent for the Hardware group of companies (Pure, Babylon, Hardware, Elrow, Mobile Disco, Piknic Electronik, Symbiotic, Festival X etc…).
  • Maintain market intelligence and awareness of emerging artists in the electronic music space including techno, house and true electronic music.
  • Oversee procurement and negotiations of deals – utilise company and your own personal contacts to pitch for artists for our shows and tours.
  • Oversee execution of deals – overseeing and sending offers, negotiating final points, contracting and executing deals in writing to standard.
  • Overseeing and deployment of resources to execute all touring artists deals including:
    • Procurement of Visa Sponsorships
    • Organising travel arrangements including hospitality requirements
    • Ground transport arrangements
    • Integrating Artists marketing team into Hardware’s marketing and publicity teams
    • Local delivery of Artists production and technical requirements
    • Welfare requirements including Health Insurance
    • Regulatory requirements (Including ATO requirements, Liability and cancellation insurances etc..))
  • Touring from time to time nationally with key bigger profile Artists protecting Hardware interests (must be prepared to travel for up to 10-18 days on the road) and sourcing/promoting overseas artists to tour with us to assist with Covid-19 recovery efforts to sustain our business to previous levels.

Imports Clerk – CMI Music & Audio

Skills / Experience Required:

  • Importing experience preferred
  • Stock ordering, receipting, tracking and administration
  • Liaising with freight forwarders and couriers
  • Experience with Custom entries
  • Stock return shipments and exports
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel experience preferred
  • Outstanding data entry skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to work unsupervised & as part of a team

Tasks / Responsibilities Include:

  • Track all orders placed and shipment ETA dates
  • Ensure that all shipments & ETA’s are up to date in company stock system
  • Manage purchase orders into company stock system
  • Receipting of stock into company stock system
  • Liaise with International Suppliers to ensure production schedules are met and ensure appropriate documentation accompanies all shipments
  • Manage courier accounts and keep track of International Import rates with TNT, UPS, and DHL
  • Check all Customs entries sent from freight forwarders and couriers to make sure correct duty is being charged
  • Follow up on any duty discrepancies and duty refunds
  • Follow up on Credit Notes and Replacement stock owed from Suppliers for return shipments
  • Log all Import related local Invoices and Stock Purchases in MYOB
  • Reconcile NAB Settlements in MYOB
  • Monthly reconciliations as required
  • Keep track of all supplier rebates received and present this data to the accountant on a monthly basis
  • Assistant backup for the Supply Chain Co-ordinator
  • Ad hoc assistance to the finance department
  • Liaise with Freight Forwarder for all pending shipments and ensure all shipping documents are correct & supplied prior to vessel arrival
  • Liaise with Product and Warehouse Manager’s regarding shipment and products ETA dates and paperwork
  • Organise and track all return shipments and exports
  • International payments administration – Logging all International Invoices and due dates;
  • Processing International payments
  • Ad hoc project work as and when required
