Mesa/Boogie has reintroduced the 90s Triple Rectifier Solo Head in a limited run blackout finish.
Few amplifiers carry the kind of cultural weight that the Triple Rectifier does. Since the original release in 1992, the Rectifier family has been the backbone of rock and heavy music – the amp behind the crushing high-gain tones, detuned rhythms, and wall-of-sound productions that defined a generation. More than three decades on, Mesa/Boogie is bringing the Triple Rec back, and this time it’s dressed in one of the most sought-after finishes the company has ever offered.

Following last year’s chrome edition of the 90s Dual and Triple Rectifier Solo Heads, this limited run goes the opposite direction, with a black chassis, black anodised diamond plate, black grille vent, black speed knobs. Doug West, Director of Tone Lab for Gibson Amplifiers and Mesa/Boogie, explained the thinking, saying, “Back in the 90s, these upscale, blacked-out models dominated stages behind some of the biggest names in rock. Today, finding one on the pre-owned market usually means heavy wear from years of touring – so this is a rare chance to own one in pristine, brand-new condition.”
Under the hood, it’s the same 150-watt, Class A/B, all-tube head that earned the Triple Rectifier its reputation. Power comes from six Mesa 6L6 tubes, with a maintenance-free fixed-bias design and a bias switch that supports both 6L6 and EL34 tubes. Three 5U4GB rectifier tubes handle rectification, with selectable tube or silicon diode rectification and a two-position Bold/Spongy power switch for adjusting feel and response.
Two fully independent channels cover the classic Rectifier voicing range. Channel 1 offers Clean or Variable High Gain (Vintage) modes, while Channel 2 runs Vintage High Gain – and with the Channel Style/Cloning switch, both channels can be pushed into alternate voicings. A tube-driven series FX loop, global output level control, and a single-button footswitch for channel switching round out the feature set.
Built by hand in Petaluma, California, in marine-grade Baltic birch with a steel chassis and black Bronco vinyl finish, the amp ships with a fitted slipcover. Mesa’s five-year warranty covers the whole package.
