The compact 104hp system combines eight channels of dual wavetable oscillators, complex function generators, and low pass gates with MIDI/MPE control via USB-C.
Make Noise has announced the New Universal Skiff System, a small but mighty modular synthesizer devoted to multi-channel polyphonic synthesis using control voltages. The 3U, 104hp system brings together six purpose-built modules in a redesigned skiff with enhanced power capabilities and USB-C MIDI integration.
Catch up on all the latest news here.
The sonic foundation of the synthesis is the MultiWAVE, an eight-channel dual wavetable oscillator. Paired with PoliMATHS—an eight-channel complex function generator—the system enables polyphonic patching from a straightforward set of controls without drowning you in complexity.
Two QXG modules combine to deliver eight channels of low-pass gate with stereo mix animation, while the MultiMod creates eight time-shifted variants of a single control signal for deeper modulation possibilities. QPAS takes care of multi-mode multi-peak stereo filtering, and the XOH provides final stereo mixing with line-level or headphone outputs for monitoring and performance.
The system includes USB-C input for activating MultiWAVE channels via MIDI or MPE signals from a USB MIDI host—whether that’s a computer running a DAW or a MIDI sequencer. This bridges traditional modular patching with modern digital control methods, giving you the best of both worlds.
Make Noise’s updated 2-Zone Skiff addresses the more demanding power standards of contemporary modules. The new 2-Zone Bus Board provides nearly double the power of its predecessor, with a multi-zone design that makes it easy to isolate noise-susceptible or noise-causing modules from each other. Low-profile shrouded power headers simplify module installation, whilst the powder-coated aluminium construction remains extremely durable.
Black powder coating and clean, simple lines keep visual emphasis where it belongs—on the patch you’ve created. The skiff comes ready to use with 40 sliding square nuts, 40 black M2.5 screws, a side-mounted on/off switch, and a universal AC power adapter that works worldwide.
Make Noise is also offering the MultiWAVE MIDI Inlet as a standalone module—a passive 2hp expansion that adds USB MIDI access to the MultiWAVE for those integrating it into existing systems. It requires no power and provides easy access to MultiWAVE’s USB functions, including firmware updates and custom wavetable uploading.
For modular enthusiasts who prefer to install modules into their own cases, the N.U.S.S. Bundle presents the core modules (MultiWAVE, PoliMATHS, two QXG units, MultiMod, and MultiWAVE MIDI Inlet) at a special bundle price.
The New Universal Skiff System ships with 15 patch cables to get you started. Make Noise expects to ship all items to dealers by the end of February or early March 2026.
